Texas Assistant Principal Blinded in One Eye by Student's Violent Outburst
Candra Rogers, an assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana, Texas, has shared the traumatic details of an incident that left her permanently blinded in one eye. The horrific event occurred when an 11-year-old student threw a hanger at Rogers, after previously hurling chairs in a violent outburst.
According to Rogers, the confrontation began with the student throwing chairs at her, which she managed to avoid. However, the situation escalated when the student threw a hanger, causing severe injury to Rogers’ eye. The damage was so extensive that she required emergency medical evacuation to a local hospital, where she faces the possibility of losing her eye entirely.
In an interview with FOX 4 News, Rogers described the chaotic scene: “When I arrived, the teacher and students were outside the classroom. One student was holding his head, having been assaulted by the student remaining in the classroom. I entered the room, which was ransacked with overturned furniture. I tried to remain calm and spoke softly to avoid further aggravating him.” Despite her efforts to de-escalate the situation, the student continued his attack.
The incident, which occurred on August 15, has sparked concern and outrage. Following the attack, the student was detained but later released into the custody of his parents. He is currently barred from returning to the campus and is under restrictions regarding his whereabouts.
Rogers’ story has drawn significant attention, highlighting the challenges faced by school staff in maintaining safety and discipline in the classroom.
